Savvy Restorations

PB/ Ballard Designs Knock Off:

Heirloom Frames

The PB Heirloom frames add a cool, rustic touch to any room and they were SOOO easy to make knock off. Let's start off with the inspiration:

These run $129 for a set of 3. Say whaaaaat?!
So I did what any Savvy restorator would do and headed to my neighborhood G-Dub (Goodwill) to see what she had on hand. I found 3 ornate frames that I thought would work well. These frames were $5.99 for the big guy, $3.99 for the medium guy and $2.99 for the small frame.

It didn't occur to me at the store to check the back of the frames for the billion staples! 3 broken nails and 40 staples later, I had this mess:
So after I removed the staples, I painted the frames Rustoleum Kona Brown and then Heirloom White (my fave) and they looked like this
I then took out my trusty sandpaper and lightly distressed the detail on each frame and got this result

Now...where to put these? Since my hubby and I cannot agree on paint swatches (I'm just waiting for him to cave in to me. He will.) I have placed the two smaller frames in our media tower and the big guy by the kitchen sink

Total cost of the project was $12.97. Take that Pottery Barn!!

Book Bundles

These are about $39 each from Pottery Barn. I decided to make my own from books I found at G-dub (Goodwill)
I made sure all three books were the same size, tore the covers off the books
One of the books had a really cool map of New York, circa 1926 so I decided that was going to be the top page of the bundle. Then I wrapped twine around the stack and I was done!

The books were $1.99 each and the twine I had from an old project but that I got from the dollar store. Total Project = 6.97
